Dr. Sumait Hospital & DirectAid – Restoring Vision Across Somalia!
Today, Dr. Sumait Hospital, in collaboration with DirectAid, officially launched the “Indho Fiiqis Lacag La’aan (Free Eye Surgery)” campaign — a life-changing initiative designed to restore sight and bring hope to communities in need.
The event welcomed distinguished guests, including Mr. Ali Diriye, Director of Administration, who extended a warm greeting to attendees and beneficiaries. Dr. Fartun Orey, the Medical Director, highlighted the crucial importance of eye-surgery programs in Somalia, emphasizing how access to vision care transforms lives and livelihoods.
Mr. Ali Farah, the Director General of Dr. Sumait Hospital, reflected on the hospital’s remarkable six-year journey in delivering ophthalmic services. He announced that the current campaign will unfold in two phases:

Phase 1, launched today, includes screening 800 patients and performing 400 free eye surgeries.

Phase 2, scheduled later this year, will extend the same service to another 800 screenings and 400 surgeries.
Mr. Farah expressed heartfelt gratitude to DirectAid and the people of Kuwait for their continued financial support and trust in Dr. Sumait Hospital’s mission.
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Sheikh Hassan Badawi, Director of DirectAid Somalia Office, who officially closed the opening event. He thanked all stakeholders and urged the hospital’s management and medical team to maintain the highest standards of care, aligning with DirectAid’s humanitarian principles and health policies.
Following the speeches, the Ophthalmology Department conducted the first round of eye screenings, marking the official start of the campaign.
