Dr. Sumait Hospital Partners with Yashoda Hospitals to Strengthen Specialized Healthcare in Somalia

Dr. Sumait Hospital, in collaboration with SIMAD University, is proud to announce a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yashoda Hospitals, one of India’s leading multi-specialty healthcare networks. The partnership is represented in Somalia by HealthBridge Som Consultant, the official representative and medical information center for Yashoda Hospitals in the country.

This agreement marks a significant step forward in expanding access to specialized, high-quality, and affordable healthcare for patients across Somalia — while reducing the need for many to travel abroad in search of advanced medical treatment.

A Shared Vision for Better Healthcare

The collaboration brings together Dr. Sumait Hospital’s deep roots in community healthcare with Yashoda Hospitals’ decades of clinical excellence and specialized expertise. Together, the two institutions aim to:

  • Improve access to quality and affordable healthcare for Somali patients
  • Strengthen local medical expertise through training and knowledge exchange
  • Reduce the financial and logistical burden of patients traveling abroad for treatment

What the Partnership Includes

The MoU establishes a broad framework of cooperation across several key areas:

Medical Consultancy and Hospital Advisory Services Yashoda Hospitals will serve as a strategic medical and hospital consultancy partner to Dr. Sumait Hospital, offering professional consultation, technical advice, medical expertise, and hospital management guidance.

Medical and Surgical Camps Both institutions will jointly organize medical and surgical camps for patients, with the scope, schedule, specialties, and staffing determined collaboratively to best serve the local community.

Clinical Training and Education Qualified doctors and specialists from Yashoda Hospitals will provide clinical training, lectures, seminars, and capacity-building programs for SIMAD University students and academic staff, covering medical, surgical, diagnostic, and other healthcare subjects.

Free Surgical Procedures and Patient Support As part of their community and social responsibility commitments, the partners will work to provide free or subsidized surgical procedures to eligible patients, with support from Direct Aid where funding allows.

Quarterly Medical Campaigns The partnership commits to at least four medical campaigns per year — offering consultations, screenings, diagnostics, health education, and specialist care to communities across Somalia.

Advanced Training Opportunities Dr. Sumait doctors will also have the opportunity to pursue advanced training at Yashoda Hospitals, building long-term clinical capacity here at home.

Telemedicine Expansion The collaboration will expand telemedicine services, connecting Somali patients with Yashoda specialists for consultations without the need to travel.

Looking Ahead

Both institutions have expressed their commitment to working together in good faith to strengthen healthcare services, medical education, and professional development for the benefit of patients and the wider community. Coordination teams from both sides will oversee the implementation of these programs, with specific activities detailed through joint planning going forward.

This partnership represents a meaningful investment in Somalia’s healthcare future — bringing world-class specialist care closer to home and building the local expertise needed to sustain it for years to come.
