Dr. Sumait Hospital Receives an “Excellent” Assessment for Its Cataract Surgery Campaign
Dr. Sumait Hospital is proud to share an important achievement with the Somali community: the hospital has received an overall “Excellent” assessment from the Federal Republic of Somalia – Ministry of Health & Human Services, Eye Health Section, following official medical supervision of its Cataract Surgery Campaign.
This recognition reflects the hospital’s commitment to maintaining high standards of eye care and ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered surgical services.
A Comprehensive Assessment
The official assessment reviewed several important areas of the hospital’s cataract surgery services. These included the qualifications and experience of the eye-care team, pre-operative patient assessment, operating theatre facilities and equipment, surgical safety, postoperative care, infection prevention and control, as well as monitoring and reporting systems.
The assessment highlights the importance of having qualified healthcare professionals, appropriate equipment, effective safety procedures, and strong systems in place to deliver quality cataract surgery.
Six Years of Restoring Sight
Over the past six years, Dr. Sumait Hospital has performed more than 10,000 cataract surgeries and screened over 100,000 people across Somalia.
This work has been supported by experienced ophthalmologists, trained healthcare staff, appropriate medical equipment, strong community outreach systems, and a growing capacity for research and evidence-based healthcare.
