In a continued effort to promote well-being and empower young people with essential life skills, the Health Ambassadors of SIMAD University successfully organized a comprehensive Mental Health Workshop. The event focused on key areas such as self-care, stress management, and strengthening mental resilience—topics that are increasingly important in today’s fast-paced and demanding environment.
The workshop brought together students from various faculties, creating an engaging and interactive space where participants could openly learn, reflect, and discuss mental health challenges. Through this initiative, the Health Ambassadors aimed to break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage a culture of awareness, support, and proactive care among university students.
The workshop was officially inaugurated by Cali Nuur Diiriye, Administrative Director of Dr. Sumait Hospital. In his opening remarks, he highlighted the critical importance of mental health as a foundation for a productive and fulfilling life. He also emphasized the role of educational institutions and healthcare providers in supporting students’ psychological well-being and fostering healthier communities.
The main session was delivered by Dr. Mohamed Taher Abdulkariim, who provided an in-depth and practical perspective on mental health. His presentation covered a wide range of topics, including identifying common stressors faced by students, understanding emotional responses, and applying effective coping strategies in daily life. He also encouraged participants to prioritize their mental health just as they would their physical health.
Throughout the workshop, several key themes were explored in detail:
- The importance of mental health care: Understanding that mental health is essential to overall well-being and should not be overlooked.
- Stress management techniques: Practical tools and strategies to help students manage academic pressure and personal challenges.
- Building mental resilience: Strengthening the ability to adapt, recover, and grow stronger in the face of difficulties.
- Raising awareness and community understanding: Promoting open conversations about mental health to reduce stigma and encourage support-seeking behavior.
Participants actively engaged in discussions and activities designed to reinforce these concepts, making the workshop both informative and impactful. Many attendees expressed appreciation for the opportunity to gain knowledge that can positively influence both their academic journey and personal lives.
Dr. Sumait Hospital continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing public health awareness by supporting initiatives like this workshop. Through collaboration with educational institutions such as SIMAD University, the hospital plays a vital role in promoting holistic well-being and empowering the next generation with the knowledge and tools needed to lead healthier, more balanced lives.
This workshop stands as a strong example of how community-driven efforts can make a meaningful difference in addressing mental health challenges and building a more informed and resilient society.
