Today, November 14, 2025, Somalia joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Diabetes Day. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Human Services of Somalia and the Somali Medical Association (SMA) with the goal of raising public awareness about diabetes and promoting healthier lifestyles across the country.

Throughout the day, participants benefited from free medical screenings, health education sessions, and informative discussions about diabetes prevention, healthy nutrition, and disease management. The event served as a crucial reminder of the importance of regular health checks and early diagnosis in controlling chronic diseases like diabetes.
Dr. Sumait Hospital played a significant role in this national health campaign. The hospital offered free diabetes screening, eye checkups, and ongoing free eye surgeries as part of its continuous community outreach program.
More than 150 people benefited from the services — including elderly men and women, youth, mothers, children, and individuals with special needs. Each received professional medical care and valuable health advice from Dr. Sumait’s dedicated medical team.
Once again, Dr. Sumait Hospital demonstrated its strong commitment to improving community health in Somalia. The hospital continues to focus on providing free, quality healthcare services and health education campaigns aimed at fighting preventable and chronic diseases such as diabetes and eye-related conditions.
“Know more and do more for diabetes” — because awareness and action are the keys to a healthier life.
