Dr. Sumait Hospital takes the name from Dr. Abd Al-Rahman bin Hamood Al-Sumait, a Kuwaiti well-wisher and phonography who devoted his time and wealth to charity works. He was a doctor by profession and specialized in internal medicine and digestive systems. Dr. Sumait founded the African Muslim Agency, currently known as Direct Aid. He also founded the Kuwait Relief Agency, and both institutions are well known for assisting millions of disadvantaged people in overcoming life-threatening crises.
The Agencies that Dr. Sumait established prevailed 124 hospitals and dispensaries, 840 schools, 204 Islamic Centers, 214 women training centers, and 2,200 mosques. It also formed three universities in Africa, among them, is SIMAD University, that educated thousands of Somalis, who are by now a cornerstone to the private and public institutions.
This hospital borrows the name from Dr. Sumait in recognition of the time and efforts he dedicated to humankind and mainly Somali people.
